 여러 가지 의학적 이유로 기도삽관을 필요로 하는 환자들이 많다. 대부분의 환자들에서는 기도삽관 중 발생할 수 있는 어려움에 대한 대비 아래 수술이나 시술을 위한 기도삽관을 시행하고 있다. 마취전문의는 기도삽관에 대한 지식과 경험이 풍부하지만, 환자의 의학적 상태에 대한 평가나 어려운 기도에 대한 준비 없이 기도삽관을 하는 것은 어려운 일이다. 따라서, 응급 삽관에 대한 준비와 훈련은 환자의 안전에 있어서 매우 중요하다. 그럼에도 불구하고, 응급 기도삽관에 관한 연구는 거의 없다. 본 연구기관에서는 2016년부터 수술실 밖에서 발생하는 응급 기도삽관을 지원하기 위해 대응팀을 운영해 왔으며, 연간 100건 이상의 응급 기도삽관을 실시하고 있다.
본 연구에서는 수술실 밖에서 마취통증의학과 의사가 수행한 모든 응급 기도삽관을 검토하였으며, 우리의 경험은 기도 대응팀을 설계하거나 교육하는 데에 매우 유용할 것이다.

There are many patients who need intubation for various reasons. Most patients were intubated for surgery or procedure with preparation for possible difficulties during intubation. Although anesthesiologists have a lot of knowledge and experience in intubation, it is challenging to intubate without evaluation of the patient's medical conditions and preparation for a difficult airway. Therefore, preparation and training for emergent intubation are very important to the safety of patients. Nevertheless, there are few studies about emergent intubation. We have operated Difficult Airway Response Team to support emergent intubation outside the operating room since 2016, and it has been performed emergent intubation more than 100 cases a year.
In this retrospective study, we reviewed all emergent intubations performed by anesthesiologists outside the operating room. The experiences will be useful for the design or education of the emergency airway response team.

We will review the medical record of all patients who were intubated by anesthesiologists outside the operating room during the observational period, and collect the variables as follows. 
1) general information about patients, 2) medical situation before intubation, 3) process of intubation, and 4) medical course after intubation. 
Details of each component are presented in the outcome measures section.
